SWORDandMUG's Delvian Shrine
Dedicated to Pa'u Zohtoh Zhaan
and
the lovely Virginia Hey

Ever have one of those moments that you just have to frame and show off to everyone? It is the kind of thing that just falls out of the sky and floors you with it's stunning, surprising, delightful impact. Here is one that happened to me.

I have frequently posted in discussions upon the Farscape BBoard at Scifi.Com. At one point, I popped out my thoughts regarding the recurrent references to a point brought up in the continuity of the show. My post generated some response, which is no biggee really as this has happened more than once to me and anyone else; however, in this particular case, my post garnered the notice of a particular BBoard member by the handle of PercyBysshe, who is none other than the lovely Virginia Hey who portrays Zhaan on Farscape. Can you imagine how blown my mind was to have generated the response with which she graced me? And, really, can you blame me for bragging? :-D

Below is the discussion in it's entirety. Enjoy. (I certainly did!)

Okay, folks, whereas the revelation (and clarification of some past speculations by Scapers) of the origin of Delvian life is extremely fascinating and unusual, let us not lose perspective. Zhaan is NOT a plant but is "flora derived." The Delvians are as much a plant as we humans are fish. While our cells divide in much the same fashion as fish, while our blood carries oxygen in much the same fashion as fish, while our reproduction from a germinated cell into a multicellular organism occurs in much the same fashion as fish, and while our skin repels water in much the same fashion as fish, we humans are NOT FISH. So why is it that everyone keeps referring to Zahn as a plant? Yes, John used "plant" and "vegetable" as a straight forward statement, which amused Zhaan a great deal, but this was clearly for comic relief. Zhaan clearly described her species as being "flora derived." Evolution processed differently upon her world for whatever reason, and vegetation eventually gained the ability of mobility and sentient thought. Nature developed similar processes to accomplish similar functions in Delvians as nature did in humans but built the structures that perform these functions from a different base. Still, Delvians are obviously very similar to humans in their physical structure and apparent anatomy as they have been alluded to, using one of Rygel’s quotes, as being "body breeders." Undoubtedly, based upon the commentary Zhaan made about her skin pigmentation, some similarities to vegetation are retained, but this is not unusual. We humans are also dependent upon sunlight with our pigmentation effecting the absorption of vitamin D from sunlight, a natural evolutionary reason for the development of light eyed/light skinned Nordics to avoid the onset of rickets, although we can supplement this via dietary intake. Wouldn’t it be easier to compare humans to monkeys than to fish? So why compare a Delvian to a plant.

In conclusion, Zhaan is not a plant but evolved from one. If she were, I would begin potting plants in my house and buy a TON of Miracle Grow. :-D
